I was fortunate to teach Zack drama for two semesters at SFDCI. He was always a bundle of energy and brought humor to the class. Occasionally he would get into mischief but would always apologize. Zack was a student who I had the pleasure of teaching in my first ever teaching placement, in Ms. Johnson's Grade 6/7 class, at DJ. During that time, I was also fortunate enough to coach him, alongside Mrs. Burgess, as a member of the Sr. Boys' Volleyball Team. Just two years ago, he completed a co-op placement with Mrs.Knapp-Irvine and he was always eager to help during my French classes. He adored sharing stories about his own experiences with younger students in an effort to inspire them to be positive members of our school community.
Often, he would stop by at the end of the school day. When our paths crossed, he was never too busy to say hello. He always represented our school with respect and he was incredibly appreciative of all of the folks who volunteered their time to support he and his peers.
Regardless of what was happening in his own life, he made time to listen to anyone who needed a sounding board. His smile and zest for life is something that will certainly be missed by myself and the rest of the Duncan J. Schoular staff.
My sincerest condolences to Zack's family and friends as they navigate these difficult times.

I got to know Zack well through my many years of teaching at Duncan J.. I had the pleasure of teaching Zack in grade 4 and coaching him on school sports teams while he was a student there. The photo that I have shared is from when I coached Zack on the Sr. Boys Volleyball Team (2015-2016). Zack was in grade 7 at the time.
Zack had such a charismatic personality. He always had a smile on his face and was the first to offer his help to anyone for anything. He never shied away from giving you a hug, “just because”. His big heart truly was made of gold! As his teacher, I also quickly learned that with his great sense of humour and that mischievous grin of his, that he would keep me on my toes! Zack will always hold a special place in my heart. ❤️ Rest In Peace Zack. You will be missed by so many.
